Where did you serve and what did you do?
I served in Afghanistan at the Detention Facility in Parwan from 2011-2012. For the first half of my deployment, I was assigned to Facility Security and then became the Command R&R Coordinator based on my MS Excel experience from my civilian career.

My ESD Bruno has became my best friend over the last 5 years. I adopted Bruno when he was 1 year old and he has been by my side ever since. While working on a Vietnam Memorial Committee, Bruno would always assist me while checking on the project. Bruno is also a regular at one of the local VFW’s that has some property. Whenever Bruno comes to visit, it is like Norm from Cheers! walking into the building. Everyone always greets him and he somehow always ends up with a beef stick. A lot of the older members really enjoy throwing ball for Bruno and some actually buy him toys that are left at the post.
Why do you do it?
I enjoy the camaraderie and being around other veterans while also being apart of something that benefits my community. My VFW post has became my family and it is one thing that I missed about being on Active Duty.
