2023 In Review *This is not a complete list, just some highlights… Donated $3,525 in oil to help veterans in need Helped 6 veterans with electric bills @ $847 Donated $1500 in self care items to active duty troops Gave $1,000 in grocery gift cards to area veterans Donated 14,332 man hours helping / supporting veterans – including mowing lawns, stacking wood, brush removal, building steps / replacing a deck Provided Color Guard for 23 Veteran Funerals – including 21 Gun Salute / TAPS Placed Flags on City Telephone Poles and replaced as needed at a cost of $2987 Participated in School activities including Hygiene for Heroes, Flags on Veterans final resting place for Memorial Day, volunteered to help operate games and activities during schools “Field Day” – Scouts participating in 9-11 ceremonies and parades Organized and lead Memorial Day, Veterans Day, 9-11 parades Donated $1500 in Christmas gifts to area children Partnered with Belfast Lions Club to help deliver food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas Gave out $2500 in High School Scholarships, including $1,000 for Voice of Democracy Essay contest Gave out $1500 in prize money to Middle School students in Belfast, Mount View, and Winsor Lead Services for Wreaths Across America events in Cemetery, presented wreaths to the families of local heroes, and provided Color Guard for same event Provided rides to TOGUS for Veterans on 22 separate occasions Assisted Local Law Enforcement with training programs, sometimes being the “bad guys” sometimes being victim Provided ideas, opinion, feedback through written and verbal communications concerning veterans needs with State Representatives in Augusta Helped 2 separate veterans move from their current living situation into a new home (furniture and all) Partnered with Belfast American Legion and had a BBQ to celebrate City of Belfast Maine Birthday party Raised almost $10,000 in boot drives and poppy distribution then gave it all away to our veteran’s relief programs Donated 42-foot Model of Aircraft Carrier “Independence” to “Our Heroes Museum in Lee Maine” Participated and received accolades for participation in “Maine’s Largest Parade” – Lobster Parade in Rockland These is not a complete list, just a small look at some of the things we have been involved in for 2023 – Thats $22,382 in financial support (at a minimum) and 14,332 man hours that we can account for —(some things we simply forgot to keep records of)
