How are you #StillServing?
My wife and I created a small recreation and primitive campground dedicated to disabled veterans. I assist other disabled veterans navigate the bureaucracy of the Veterans Administration in an attempt to access the benefits they have earned. I also work with any veteran or their family members that struggles with depression or PTSD. Our small park is a place of peace and relaxation where the veteran can reconnect with family and friends in a calm, non-judgmental environment . We have ponds for fishing, archery range, marksmanship ranges, tent camping with modern bathrooms and shower, a ham radio station, fire pits and plenty of room to sit back, relax and enjoy nature.
Why do you do it?
Anyone who has worn the uniform, especially the ones that have seen combat is part of our family. As a retired Command Chief I still feel the need to look after the troops, that feeling is part of who I am. I do it because I was drawn to the need of those that seem to be forgotten. A lot of people talk about helping but all they do is ask for money. I feel that my actions have more of an impact.
