Where did you serve and what did you do?
I served two tours in Vietnam as an Infantryman in the Army’s 4th infantry division and later as a military police officer with the 18th MP Brigade in Cam Ranh Bay. Then returned to Fort Ord, CA as an Infantry AIT instructor
How are you Still Serving?
I’ve been the commander of VFW Post 142 for 17 years. I’ve led my post to All-State every year and All-American 7 times. I’ve been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Our post makes donations to several community based organizations, schools, and of course veterans. We participate in community events.. i.e. leading the 4th of July parade down Main Street with our color guard, and presenting the colors at meetings and athletic events. I’ve been the Senior Vice Commander of Idaho’s VFW District 5 for several years. I am also on the Board of Directors of my local chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America. I also serve as the Veterans Service Officer for Boise County. I am a career Law Enforcement Officer with 50 years of experience, now semi-retired and working part time for the Boise County Sheriff’s Department. On a different note, being an animal lover, my wife and I have rescued 10 Retired Racing Greyhounds over the years, along with other animals.
Why do you do it?
It sounds cliche, but I truly believe in making a difference, and I believe in my 75 years on this planet, I’ve been pretty successful doing just that.
