How are you Still Serving?

I support 2 Hospices in their We Honor Veterans program, Pen Pal program, and Birthday programs. In the We Honor Veterans program, I put my Air Force Service Dress back on (yes, after being retired for 14 years, I still fit in it) and visit the veterans that the two hospices have under their care. Pin them with a Veterans Pin, give them a Certificate of Appreciation, a small bag of Patriotic Items and brownies my wife makes for them (sugar-free if they are diabetic). I’ll also visit with them if they are at their home allowing the caregiver some time to run errands. I’ve pinned veterans not only in the Shreveport/Bossier area, but as far east as Arcadia, north as Springhill, west as Vivian, south as Reserve/Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Have pinned 232 Veterans since 2018 with one hospice and 19 Veterans since Jan of 2024 with the other hospice.

Why do you do it?

I feel my fellow Veterans need to be recognized one last time for the sacrifices they made to our country. It also allows their families to see the pride in their loved one’s eyes.
