Where did you serve and what did you do?

Served in the Erbil area of Northern Iraq with the 404th Civil Officers Battalion. I was a Logistics Officer in the BN S4.

How are you Still Serving?

As the Adjutant and Judge Advocate of VFW Post 6617 in Northeast Philadelphia I organize VFW & Legion volunteers for many events at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home.

Why do you do it?

Military service is in my family. My great great grandfather served in the Civil War. My Father served in WW2 & during the beginning of the Korean War. His brother (my uncle) served near the end of the Korean War. My father didn’t say much about his 7 years in the Navy. But I learned a lot from his war journal when it was found after his death. It was very interesting to read about my father as a 19 year old serving on a DE on convoy duty in the North Atlantic and South Pacific hunting enemy subs. We attended many events at the local VFW during the 1950s. As a teenager, I listened to the older guys in my neighborhood who served in Vietnam while I was still in high school. I served in the Army Reserve with Vietnam vets during my 32 years (1973-2005). Even had two Vietnam vets in Iraq with me. I do it because I don’t want any the of Vets that I have met since the 1950’s to be forgotten. I want them to know that I, and my VFW Post, will do anything for them, until the day I die.
