How are you #StillServing?
I volunteer for the Northern California Health Care System VA Hospital at Mather, CA. I provide wheelchair assistance, inforation services, and guidance to veterans seeking medical care enrollment. Also, I help veterans to apply for disability evaluations which may be service related, or service connected. I enjoy meeting and talking with veterans and have found that some are happier when they are noticed and spoken to. There is a sense of satisfaction when I can improve someone’s morale and wellbeing.
I also volunteer as a Docent at the Aerospace Museum of California (McClellan) providing tours of displayed aircraft, engines, and other military artifacts. We try to motivate younger people to become interested in aviation and demonstrate the science behind flying. We us Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) as a guideline in our tours.
Why do you do it?
I am a Life Member of VFW and enjoy the community service experiences and efforts. I like the opportunities to serve veterans on all levels, active duty, retired, or anyone who has served. I have worked with other veteran groups supporting Habitat to Humanity, Air Show and other fund-raising events. I enjoy visiting high schools to offer scholarship application information for annual scholarships. Interface with the public usually presents a positive and important understanding of military service and veterans.
