Why do you do it?

As a child I grew up an Air Force military brat. After graduating high school and previously living all over the world, I felt the call to serve. After 9 years of active duty, I separated due to medical conditions, but continued to serve and live the military life while my husband was still on active duty. I continued to serve as a mentor to young spouses as a Key Spouse and continued to serve in Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs. My husband and I retired in Georgia away from military life and I felt the immediate absence of service. While never dropping the ball on Scouts, the VFW gave me more opportunities to help fellow veterans. Helping people makes me happy. Helping youth and veterans makes me more than happy….it gives me both, a sense of pride, and a sense of humility in my service. In short, it’s what makes me thrive!
