Where did you serve and what did you do?

My service has been wide and extensive. I began in the US Navy during the Vietnam War where I was a Fire Control Technician and worked on several ships. I helped commission the USS Barbour County LST 1195, then spent time on the USS Hollister DD 788, ending my tour of duty as a Petty Officer Second Class, FTG2.

How are you Still Serving?

It is my belief that service to our fellow beings never really ends. That is why I remain active in supporting veterans and others in numerous ways. My VFW leadership positions have included Post Commander, Senior/Junior Vice Commander, Post Quartermaster, District Quartermaster and accredited Service Officer. With all my experience I try to educate, connect and support all veterans, in and out of the VFW. In addition to serving in the VFW, I also serve as the American Legion Post 13 Adjutant/Treasurer. I continue to serve in the community. I am a mentor at the Utah State District 4 Veterans Court. I have served as a scoutmaster several times at different locations. I continue to give platelets biweekly, I also serve in my church as a Building Scheduler and have served in various leadership positions. In my neighborhood I regularly provide transportation for several wheelchair-bound individuals to get groceries.

Why do you do it?

My motivation for service is a love for mankind, a feeling of duty and obligation to share my good fortune with others and a desire to contribute to humanity for as long as I possibly can. My experience enriches my service because I have seen firsthand the immense sacrifices of our veterans and the needs that may result from such sacrifices. I serve because all people need help. The need for platelets and blood are acute, especially those suffering with cancer and other diseases. I want to help Veterans, their families and anyone who needs help. I am blessed and want to bless others.
