Where did you serve and what did you do?

On May 22, 2026, VFW Auxiliary (6 members) to Ft. Shafter Post 10276 went to Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Pearl City, Hawaii to put a US Flag with a mini lei on 36 gravesites of our fallen veterans. A week earlier our Post 10276 and approximately 60 volunteers cleared the cemetery with weed whackers and garbage bags to clear the debris because no one has been taking care of the cemetery and previous owner is nowhere to be found. The Post, other nonprofit organizations, plus military personnel from Joint Base Pearl Harbor and Hickam Air Field volunteered to clear all debris to make the cemetery presentable for families and friends will visit the graves of their loved ones this Memorial Day Weekend.

How are you Still Serving?

Our auxiliary was initiated six years ago and since then every year the post and auxiliary have been taking care of the cemetery.

Why do you do it?

We do it because our veterans served to defend this country and we want to honor all veterans who served in our community.
