How are you Still Serving?

I am the Quartermaster at VFW Post 584. I am of service to our members. I hold office hours on Sunday Funday. Recently, our Post put together a new idea for the Day of Service. We did a School Supply Drive at our local Walmart. The event was called FILL THAT HUMVEE!! Where we worked with the Oregon National Guard to stage a Humvee at the storefront of Walmart. Asking for school supply donations. It was well organized. We provided free snacks and cold drinks as customers were entering the store. The response was spectacular! We received several hundred dollars of cash donations in addition to FILLING THAT HUMVEE with school supplies. We were there from 10am to 6pm. Mission Complete.

Our following event will be during the Commander's picnic, open to veterans and their families. It will be FILL THAT BACKPACK!! A back to school event to help veterans and their families, supplying them with Backpacks full of School Supplies!!

Why do you do it?

Selfless Service is very rewarding and gives me purpose outside of my household. I want to help wherever I can.
