Where did you serve and what did you do?
1st BN, 6th Marines, WPNS Co, CAAT Platoon Kandahar, Afghanistan-2004 Fallujah, Iraq -2005
How are you Still Serving?
I started a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization that offers military veterans the opportunity to reunite with members of their unit to reconnect in a single location to improve mental health and prevent veteran suicide
Why do you do it?
After losing some of my fellow vets to suicide, Jesse Bergeron and I, organized a retreat for surviving Marines as a moment of healing. Quickly, we realized the power of group therapy. Unanimously, the our group acknowledged the stigma surrounding mental health- not to mention the three month wait to see a doctor with the VA if they chose to seek assistance. There had to be a better option and I devised a plan. Veterans needed a space to hold group therapy sessions that are free for veterans without the stigma. My wife Jillian and I had to make the hard decision to sell our family home, move into an RV and travel the country, eventually landing just north of Gulf Shores, Alabama to purchase twenty acres of undeveloped land with our life savings, deciding this was the perfect location. Now, through our 501c3 non-profit, Warrior Legacy Ranch, we are in the process of building a barndominium to house veterans for reunions, as a form of therapy- all at no cost to veterans. The current state of the land is still undeveloped- but my board and I have already booked out the retreat for the first three years- once a structure has been built.
