Where did you serve and what did you do?

Comrade Jenkins entered the United States Army at just 17 years old in 1957, beginning over 20 years of honorable service, culminating in his retirement at the rank of First Sergeant. His first duty station was Fort Eustis, VA, where he served as a Heavy Truck Driver (MOS 64210).
During his career, he served in many locations, including a tour in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, gaining invaluable experience and serving with distinction. His final duty station was Fort Meade, MD, where he served until his retirement in December 1979 (MOS 71L50).
Throughout his military career, Preston demonstrated dedication, leadership, and a commitment to excellence that laid the foundation for his continued service to veterans and the community today.

How are you Still Serving?

Preston continues to serve by actively participating in all Post and District activities, as well as community Stand Down events. He consistently volunteers his time and energy to initiatives that directly address the needs of veterans and their families in the Charlotte area.
He has coordinated food donations through his church, supported sock drives, and contributed to lunchbox programs for homeless veterans at the Charlotte VA Health Care System. In addition, he has assisted with back-to-school initiatives in partnership with WSOC-TV.
Preston is also dedicated to encouraging youth involvement and often invites fellow Post members to join him in service opportunities that uplift and support vulnerable individuals and families. Through his leadership and commitment, he continues to make a meaningful impact in the veteran community.

Why do you do it?

Preston also made a generous contribution to the Post by donating a large smoker—at no cost—which was in excellent condition. This smoker has been invaluable for fundraising efforts, allowing the Post to prepare large quantities of food and better support its mission.
He is dedicated to encouraging youth involvement and often invites fellow Post members to join him in service opportunities that uplift and support vulnerable individuals and families. Through his leadership, generosity, and commitment, Preston continues to make a meaningful and lasting impact in the veteran community.
