Where did you serve and what did you do?

Lackland AFB, TX (Basic), Medina AFB, TX (Patrol and Narcotic Detector Dog Schools), March AFB, CA, Osan AB, Korea, Aviano AB, Italy, Offutt AFB, NE I was one of the first female military working dog handlers (Narcotic Detector Dog).

Tell us how your dog is helping you continue Still Serving in your community.

My service dog is a 2-year-old miniature Australian Shepherd. Enzo is capable of doing challenging activities for me, and obtaining help for me if needed. I can function normally on my own with his assistance. His nature and training give reassurance and calmness to others who need it.

Why do you do it?

I was blessed to grow up in a family that believed in serving others with your talents and training. Early on, I recognized how animals can bring peace to those who are troubled. Although Enzo’s prime duty is as my assistant, he has the innate ability to identify people in pain and alert me to recognize it. After my military years, I became a Registered Nurse, certified in Psychology/Mental Health, and worked with PTSD Veterans.
