Where did you serve and what did you do?
Tan Son Nhut AFB, Medical Corps
How are you #StillServing?
Since my separation from the military, I have worked hard to serve the residents of our community and our county. I have led many successful campaigns to raise monies for different organizations, including leading a $3 million dollar campaign for our local community college foundation. I have donated both my time and my treasure. Along with my wife, I created a foundation whereby we could give scholarships to primarily local first-generation college students. Through our foundation, we have not only given the scholarships, but we have provided training in college success and career readiness skills.
I have also recently written a book entitled A Soldier’s Heart: The Three Wars of Vietnam. To learn more, please visit my Web site at raygauvin.com
Why do you do it?
When I was growing up, my town was a great place to live. I had a great deal of support throughout my childhood. Then when my dad passed away when I was 14, many community members stepped forward and became my mentors. Without their support, I would not have become the person I am today. I serve because I want to give back to the community that gave so much to me.
I serve also because we live in a wonderful country. And it takes all of us to lend our skills, our knowledge, our time and our treasure – to work together to ensure that this great land continues to thrive and grow. And support future generations, just as we were supported.
