Where did you serve and what did you do?
FLW, MO Basic and AIT. Ft. Hood, TX motor pool clerk. Handed out tools and stuff, Drank Long necks. Nha Trang, RVN. Office Records Clerk. Yep it was that exciting. Assured Battalion officer’s Awards, OER’s and other important information pertinent to their careers was in proper order.
How are you Still Serving?
I volunteer at my local VFW post filing papers, answering phones and giving tours of our banquet hall. I also volunteer with the Naperville Honor Guard, a combined honor guard from both VFW and AL. I am one of the originals when it was formed 10+ years ago. As of now I have performed over 600 Military Funeral Honors. Hearing Taps still makes my eyes moisten.
Why do you do it?
I volunteer at the post because I am a big believer in helping out locally. Our post is very active in our town, Naperville, IL. Activities include VOD, the Healing Wall, etc. I started with the Honor Guard to insure that the veteran’s families knew that their loved one was supported, respected and loved. It has turned into one of the highlights of my life.
