HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas

Where did you serve and what did you do?

Entered at Ft. Ord in 1972. Station at Ft. Hunter-Liggett in California. Then to Berlin, Germany until 1975 augmenting the Berlin Brigade. MOS was 11B, as a SP4.

How are you Still Serving?

Active member and volunteer at and within Post 2278. Attend every meeting, work with other members at membership drives, poppy drives, at post community activities, and assist the Auxiliary with activates withing the post and community.

Why do you do it?

I was not active for so long after getting out of the military because I didn’t know who I was or what I was. The VA mental health services assisted me with discovering how I felt and why. I didn’t realize I had PTSD. This helped me to recognize the times when and why I wasn’t able to connect with others. This allowed me to feel better about myself. Soon after I saw the Post in town and felt that I was able to participate in the activities I see them doing in the community. Being involved gives me the chance to give back and help the VFW help others in similar circumstances.
