Where did you serve and what did you do?

Harry “J.R.” Miller entered active service with the Marine Corps in 1975 and began his enlistment as a Heavy Vehicle Operator with Truck Company Headquarters Battalion 2D Marine Division out of Camp Lejeune North Carolina. Harry “J.R.” Miller was then deployed to the Gulf of Aden where he earned his Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal. After being deployed for 11 months Harry “J.R.” Miller returned to the U.S. to complete his enlistment which totaled 4 years 11 months.

How are you Still Serving?

Harry “J.R.” Miller has been active with VFW Post 5422 since 2007, holding several positions within the post and currently serving as the Junior Vice Commander. Along with responsibilities of the VFW, Harry “J.R.” Miller is also active with the Wilmington American Legion where he serves as a member and is a retired member of the Marine Vets Motorcycle Club. Harry “J.R.” Miller is also active in many community organizations to include the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, Wilmington Park District, Rotary Club and many other youth organizations in and around neighboring communities. Harry “J.R. Miller participates in Veteran Home programs and supports our military reserve units by cooking meals for them during events. If there is an event in the area, Harry “J.R.” Miller is usually found preparing or cooking food for it.

Why do you do it?

Harry “J.R.” Miller enjoys making people happy. He enjoys communicating with everyone he comes in contact with. If he can make someone smile, it’s worth the effort to keep providing services to take away from the Everday discontent the world is seeing.
