Where did you serve and what did you do?

I served over 26 years with the Texas Air National Guard, 111th Fighter Squadron. I served in Ops was the Airfield Manager and NCOIC of the F-16 Scheduling Shop. We deployed to LSA Anaconda Balad, Iraq in 2005 and 2007 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. I also volunteered at the Air Force Theatre Hospital (AFTH) unloading the wounded from the medevac helicopters and taking them to the ER and at times in the OR. I spent most of my volunteer time in the ICU.

Tell us how your dog is helping you continue Still Serving in your community.

Atticus “Hero” Garcia is my service companion awarded to me by Paws for Heroes. I am an advocate for the military, veterans and their families here in Houston and across the state of Texas. Atty knows when I need his support when I feel the symptoms of PTSD. He helps me focus on my mental health and continue to serve in the community. I am grateful for his compassion.

Why do you do it?

I served my country for 26 years. The opportunities my country have provided for me, and my family are countless. I continue to serve by being an advocate for our heroes.
