Where did you serve and what did you do?
Station with the Screaming Eagles (Ft. Campbell) right out of Basic and AIT. Multiple deployments with Bco 3/327th Inf to include my VFW Eligibility deployment to the Persian Gulf in 1990. Worked in the 11C MOS the entire time mastering each position (AG, Gunner, FDC and Squad Leader) before be battle tested. Our squad was competant, confident and a tight group whom I was proud of serving with.
How are you #StillServing?
I can never talk about how I am still serving without first mentioning that I am only a member of great leadership teams and our collective experience make things happen. With that being said I hold a leadership role both at the Post and District level chain of command. The most rewarding role however is serving on our Post Committee for community service projects such as supporting our local Boyscout Troop / Funding Food Banks / Funding Homeless Shelters for Veterans / Assisting the Military Working Poor (E1-E5 with families), donating to areas devastated from natural events such as the Maui Relief fund sponsored throuh VFW National and supporting our VFW National Home.
Why do you do it?
I was in a real funk post service, had trouble adjusting to regular whatever mentality that most civilians live by. A civilian friend brought me a puppy and told me it needed a home, we trained together, we hiked together, we walked together and most important we needed each other. She (Asia) was my first step of getting back on track with my life. I realized that after 15-20 years in my post service life I was missing out on something. My personal life was finally in check, my professional life was thriving but I still had an empty feeling in my gut. Volunteering at Church was great for awhile but the moment I stepped into my first VFW I knew I could help make a difference with people I understand. I try to keep life in balance but I am happy to be able to continue to serve our community through the VFW.
